Rudolfswarte Travel Guide

Rudolfswarte, situated in the heart of the Vienna Woods near Purkersdorf, is a prominent observation tower offering stunning panoramic views. The original brick lookout was built in 1861 and quickly became a favorite destination for city dwellers. However, it fell into disrepair around the turn of the 20th century. The Purkersdorf Sandstein-Wienerwald Nature Park Association reconstructed the lookout, completing it in 1978 with support from the State of Lower Austria and the municipality.The current wooden structure stands 26 meters tall and features a covered platform. From the top, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the western Vienna Woods, parts of Vienna, and, on clear days, even as far as the Little Carpathian Mountains, Schneeberg, and Ötscher. The tower is named after Crown Prince Rudolf, who frequented the area for hunting expeditions.Rudolfswarte is easily accessible via hiking trails and is a popular destination for those exploring the Purkersdorf Nature Park. The surrounding nature park offers themed trails that provide insights into the region's ecology and natural history. The tower has undergone several renovations to withstand the elements, demonstrating its enduring appeal and importance to the local community.
