Designed by Swiss architect Hans Wilhelm Auer, the four-story building showcases a Neo-Renaissance style, characterized by its detailed facade and robust corner projections. Over the years, the sanatorium transitioned through various phases, reflecting changes in healthcare and Vienna's urban development. Dr. Julius Fürth, a friend of Sigmund Freud, acquired the building in 1895 and expanded it into a clinic for surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, and internal medicine, becoming a prominent private maternity clinic for Vienna's Jewish middle class. After Dr. Fürth's death in 1926, his son Lothar took over until 1938 when he was forced to commit suicide after the annexation of Austria by the Nazis.While the interior is not generally accessible to the public, the exterior provides ample opportunities for photography and appreciation of its architectural grandeur.
