    From Stephansplatz, walk south on Kärntner Straße, then turn left onto Himmelpfortgasse. Continue onto Johannesgasse, then turn right onto Hegelgasse. The marker is located on the right at Hegelgasse 21. The walk is approximately 5-10 minutes.

The historic marker commemorating the birthplace of Professor Friedrich Hacker is located at Hegelgasse 21 in Vienna's Innere Stadt (1st district). Friedrich Hacker, born in this house on January 19, 1914, lived here until 1937. He later emigrated to the United States, becoming an internationally recognized author and researcher on terror and aggression. Hacker's work delved into the psychological roots of violence, drawing from Freudian psychoanalysis and incorporating theories of aggression. He consulted on high-profile crime cases, including the kidnapping of Patty Hearst. In 1968, he founded the Sigmund Freud Society in Vienna and played a key role in preserving Freud's former residence at Berggasse 19, now the Sigmund Freud Museum. Hacker died in 1989 and is buried in an honorary grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
