Getting There

  • Subway

    If you are near the Stephansplatz, take the U1 subway line (Red Line) in the direction of Leopoldau. Get off at the next stop, Karlsplatz. Then transfer to the U2 subway line (Purple Line) and take it in the direction of Seestadt. Get off at the Rathaus stop. Upon exiting the station, you will see the impressive Vienna City Hall (Rathaus) directly ahead, and Rathausplatz is right in front of it.

  • Tram

    If you are near the Ringstraße, locate the tram stop for lines 1 or 2. Board the tram heading towards the direction of the Votivkirche (for line 1) or towards the Burgring (for line 2). Travel to the Rathausplatz stop. Once you get off, you will be at the east side of Rathausplatz, right next to the City Hall.

  • Walking

    If you are in the Innere Stadt, you can walk to Rathausplatz. From Stephansplatz, head northwest along the Graben street, turning left onto Kärntnertor Theater. Continue straight until you reach the Ringstraße. Turn right and walk along the Ringstraße until you reach the Burgtheater. From there, cross the street to your left, and you will find yourself at Rathausplatz, with the City Hall in view.

  • Bus

    If you are near the Westbahnhof train station, you can take bus number 48A. Board the bus at the Westbahnhof stop and ride it until you reach the Rathausplatz stop. The stop is directly next to the City Hall, and you will see the square as you get off the bus.
