The Denkmal Widerstandskämpfer Viktor Mrnustik und Franz Heindl is a memorial dedicated to the memory of two Austrian resistance fighters who were executed by the Nazi regime. Viktor Mrnustik (1902-1943) and Franz Heindl (1906-1944) were active in the illegal Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) and resisted the Nazi regime. Both men were eventually arrested, sentenced to death for "preparing for high treason", and beheaded in the Vienna Regional Court. The memorial was originally erected in 1950 near the Varta accumulator factory where both men worked. It honored their membership in the antifascist resistance group. After the factory's demolition, the memorial was moved in 2009 to its current location in front of the Liesing Cemetery. The memorial features portraits of Mrnustik and Heindl and bears the inscription "Niemals vergessen" (Never Forget). Visiting this memorial offers a moment for reflection on the cost of freedom and the importance of resisting oppression. It stands as a testament to the bravery of ordinary people who risked their lives for their beliefs.
