Discover more about Maurer Rathaus Park

Maurer Rathaus Park, located in the Liesing district of Vienna, is a charming green space offering a peaceful retreat from the city bustle. Situated next to the historic Mauer Town Hall and the Maurer Pfarrkirche Sankt Erhard, the park provides a blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks. The park spans 14,000 square meters and was redesigned in 2003 to include a renatured pond, creating a habitat for local wildlife and a serene focal point for visitors. A children's playground with football and basketball areas offers recreational opportunities for families. The park also features a drinking fountain and winding paths with ample seating, inviting leisurely strolls and relaxation. One of the park's highlights is the Magna Mater Fountain, created in 1930 by architect Adolf Stöckl. The fountain features a flat, octagonal basin with metal snakes spouting water and a central sculpture of the Magna Mater (Great Mother) with four children, crafted from Laaser marble by Anton Hanak in 1926. Originally located in Vienna's 9th district, the fountain was moved to Maurer Rathaus Park during the restoration of the Julius Tandler Family Center between 1962 and 1965. In addition to the Magna Mater Fountain, the park also contains an athlete figure by Oskar Thiede, created during the interwar period. Both the fountain and the sculpture are protected as historical monuments, adding to the park's cultural significance. The park is surrounded by educational institutions, including the Dr.-Adolf-Lorenz-School, the Rudolf-Steiner-School, the Karl-Schubert-School, and the Volkshochschule Mauer.
