Steinhofer Park: Vienna's Green Retreat

Steinhofer Park, situated in the 14th district of Vienna, is a sprawling 42-hectare green oasis offering a diverse landscape and recreational opportunities. Once part of the Otto Wagner Hospital, the park was opened to the public in 1981 following a referendum. Today, it stands as a testament to Vienna's commitment to providing accessible green spaces for its citizens.The park features extensive meadows, tree-lined paths, and a large playground, making it ideal for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city, especially from the higher points within the park. The Steinhofgründe, as it's also known, is part of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve since 2005, further emphasizing its ecological importance. An additional 15 hectares were added to the park in 2007.Steinhofer Park is not only a place for recreation but also a space with a complex history. The grounds were previously used by the hospital for recreation and gardening. Today, the park is home to grazing sheep, contributing to sustainable maintenance of the grasslands. With camping and picnic areas available, Steinhofer Park provides a refreshing escape from the urban environment.
