Discover more about Lobkowitzbrücke

Lobkowitzbrücke, nestled in Vienna's 15th district, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, is more than just a functional bridge; it's a tranquil landmark offering a peaceful respite from the urban frenzy. Spanning the Wien River, this bridge provides picturesque views and a serene atmosphere, making it a delightful spot for both locals and tourists. Originally built in 1837 and named after Hofkanzler August Fürst Lobkowitz, the bridge has undergone several transformations throughout its history. In 1898, during the Wien River regulation and the construction of the Stadtbahn (city railway), the bridge was rebuilt. For a time, it was colloquially known as the Meidlinger Brücke. In the 1960s, the area around Lobkowitzbrücke was redesigned as part of the planning for Vienna's western entrance (A1). The Otto Wagner-designed Stadtbahn station was dismantled, and the Wien River was covered for approximately 150 meters. This expansion created a traffic hub that opened to the public on November 18, 1969. Today, Lobkowitzbrücke is integrated into a bustling urban environment, with the Meidling Hauptstraße U-Bahn station (U4 and U6 lines) and various bus lines converging nearby, making it a significant public transport hub. Despite the surrounding traffic, the bridge offers a pleasant pedestrian experience, with pathways leading to local parks and green spaces along the Wien River.
