Walking
From the Dürnstein Parkplatz P2, walk towards the town center through the Unterloiben gate. Continue on Hauptstrasse, keeping the Danube River to your left. The trail to Dürnstein Castle and the Vogelbergsteig is signposted from the town center. The trailhead is located at the north end of town, about a 10-15 minute walk from the center. Note that the walk to the castle and the start of the Vogelbergsteig involves a steep climb.
Public Transport
Arriving in Krems by train, transfer to bus 715 towards Melk. Get off at the Dürnstein Parkplatz P2 bus stop. From there, walk towards the town center. A single bus fare from Krems to Dürnstein costs approximately €2-€11. Alternatively, a Wachau Day Ticket costs €12 and covers bus and ferry travel in the Wachau Valley.
Car
From Krems, drive west on the B3 towards Dürnstein. In Dürnstein, park at one of the paid parking lots outside the town center, such as P2. Parking fees at P2 are approximately €4 for 2 hours. From the parking lot, walk through the underpass to the old town.
