Public Transport & Walking
From Krems or Melk, take bus 720 to Arnsdorf. From the 'Arnsdorf Bundesstrasse' bus stop, it's approximately a 30-45 minute walk to the base of Hoher Stein. Follow signs towards Hofarnsdorf and then for Hoher Stein. The bus fare is approximately €4-€6, depending on the distance traveled within the Wachau region. A 'Wachau Day Ticket' for €12 allows unlimited travel on buses and ferries in the Wachau Valley.
Ferry & Walking
From Spitz, take the Rollfähre Spitz-Arnsdorf ferry across the Danube. The ferry operates from March to October (6:15 AM - 7:00 PM Mon-Fri, 8:15 AM - 7:30 PM Sat/Sun/Holidays) and has limited winter hours. The ferry costs €2.20 per adult for a one-way trip. From the Arnsdorf ferry landing, follow the signs towards Hoher Stein, which is about a 1-hour uphill walk.
Driving & Parking
Drive to Hofarnsdorf or Oberarnsdorf. Limited free parking is available near the trailhead. From the parking area, follow the well-marked hiking trails to Hoher Stein. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak season.
