Car
If driving from the Wachau region, follow the B3 towards Aggsbach Dorf. In Aggsbach Dorf, turn towards Maria Langegg and follow the signs to Burgruine Aggstein. The road leading up to the castle is accessible by car and bus. There are sufficient parking spaces in front of the castle ruin. Parking fees may apply.
Public Transport
To reach Burgruine Aggstein via public transport, take a train to Melk or Krems. From either station, take VOR bus line 720 to Aggstein. From Krems, the bus ride takes approximately 3 hours. From Melk, take the bus line 715 to Groisbach Bundesstraße, which takes about 12 minutes. From the Aggstein bus stop, follow the signs to the castle, which is about a 15-minute walk uphill. Bus tickets cost between €3-€11.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Aggstein, you can hike from nearby towns such as Dürnstein. There are well-marked hiking trails that lead to the castle, offering scenic views of the Danube River. The hike can take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace. If you are in Aggsbach Markt, a well-marked hiking path leads directly to Burgruine Aggstein. The hike takes approximately 30 minutes from the parking area in Aggsbach Markt.
