Lichtenfels Castle: A Ruin Reborn

By the 18th century, Lichtenfels Castle had been abandoned, left to the elements and the slow creep of decay.The creation of the Ottenstein reservoir in the mid-20th century further altered the castle's landscape. What was once a wooded promontory on the left bank of the River Kamp is now a peninsula in the middle of the Ottenstein reservoir, offering a picturesque view. The castle is owned by the Thurn-Valsassina family since the 19th century.Today, visitors can explore the freely accessible sculpture park amidst the castle ruins.
