Discover more about Museum St. Peter an der Sperr

The Museum St. Peter an der Sperr, a magnificent complex formed by the merger of the City Museum (founded in 1824) and the Dominican Church of St. Peter an der Sperr, stands as one of Wiener Neustadt's architectural jewels. Originally built on the northern city wall as part of the defensive line, St. Peter's offers unique exhibition rooms within its nave, cloister wing, and modernized extension. The museum's extensive collection provides a multimedia overview of the city's 800-year history, with a focus on interactive and accessible art and culture education. Exhibits include valuable art-historical pieces like the late Gothic Corvinus Beaker and the silver Gospel Book of the Teutonic Order from 1325, along with paintings and artifacts representing daily life in the town. The museum also serves as a forum for social issues, discussions, and diverse exhibitions. Visitors can explore the imposing fortifications that once surrounded Wiener Neustadt in the casemates, a structure unique in Europe. The oldest part, built from 1552, is the Strada Coperta, which illustrates the evolution of fortification and siege weaponry. The museum also presents a new, interactive display of the city's collection, inviting visitors to rediscover the familiar and explore the unknown.
