Siegfried Marcus Automobile Museum: A Tribute to Automotive Pioneer

Step back in time at the Siegfried Marcus Automobil-Museum in Stockerau, a hidden gem dedicated to the life and work of Siegfried Marcus, an Austrian inventor whose contributions to the automotive world have often been overshadowed. While Karl Benz is widely credited with inventing the first gasoline-powered automobile, Marcus's earlier experiments and innovations played a crucial role in the development of the internal combustion engine. The museum seeks to rectify that historical oversight, celebrating Marcus's ingenuity and showcasing the evolution of automotive technology. The museum was founded in 1986 by Peter Malek, a local collector with a passion for vintage vehicles. Malek meticulously assembled a diverse collection of cars and motorcycles, including rare and unique models from Austrian, German, and English manufacturers. After Malek's death in 2014, his son took over the museum's care. The museum also houses the "Österr. Siegfried Marcus Research Society,” dedicated to researching Austrian vehicle history. Among the museum's highlights is a replica of Siegfried Marcus's early automobile, offering visitors a tangible connection to the dawn of the automotive age. Visitors can admire a 1939 Steyr 220 Spezialroadster by Gläser, an Austro-Daimler bodied by Alexis Kellner, and other meticulously restored vehicles. The museum also displays photographs, documents, and other artifacts that shed light on Marcus's life, work, and impact on the automotive industry. One notable exhibit is a KITT Firebird Trans Am, used to promote the Knight Rider series and later displayed at the museum. The museum also has a collection of Puch motorcycles. The Siegfried Marcus Automobil-Museum offers a unique and intimate museum experience. The museum is housed in a historic building with Art Nouveau elements. The museum participates in the Internationale Oldtimer Messe Tulln, where a replica of the Marcus Wagen is presented. The museum also organizes outings, exhibitions, trade fairs and meetings with its automobiles.
