Discover more about Steinpyramide

Located on the Ober-Neustifter Steinberg in the Waldviertel region, the Steinpyramide is a stepped pyramid that stands as the only structure of its kind in Central Europe. The pyramid consists of four circular levels, reaching a height of 6.8 meters with a base diameter of 16.5 meters. Constructed from loosely stacked boulders, the pyramid's origins and purpose are unknown. Some speculate it was a Germanic place of worship, though archaeological evidence doesn't support this. A more likely theory connects it to the Masonic lodge founded by Leopold Christoph von Schallenberg in Rosenau Castle in 1747. It may have served as a signaling station or been part of a larger complex. Until 2000, the site was a pile of stone debris. It was reconstructed in collaboration with the Federal Monuments Office. Today, the Steinpyramide is considered a place of power, with intersecting geomantic lines and water veins. Visitors can explore the pyramid and the surrounding Neuwald forest, enjoying the area's natural beauty.
