    The Retzer Erlebniskeller is located on the Hauptplatz (main square) in Retz. From anywhere in the town center, walk towards the Hauptplatz. The entrance and ticket office are located at the Gästeinfo Retzer Land, Hauptplatz 30, directly opposite the Rathaus (city hall). The meeting point for tours is at the Rathaus entrance.

    The Retzer Erlebniskeller, or Adventure Cellar of Retz, is a sprawling subterranean labyrinth beneath the charming town of Retz in the Weinviertel region. Stretching over 20 kilometers and reaching depths of up to 20 meters, it represents Austria's largest historical wine cellar. Since 1279, the citizens of Retz have been storing their precious wine in layers of pure marine sand.The cellars were dug into sandy sediment and built on three levels. The constant temperature of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius provides ideal conditions for wine maturation. During World War II, the cellars were surveyed for potential use as underground factories, but the plans were never carried out.Today, visitors can explore this unique underground world on guided tours. The tour includes a short explanation at the main square and a wine tasting. The experience also includes the historic panoramic view at the Retz main square.
