Discover more about Hafelekarspitze

Hafelekarspitze, also known as the Top of Innsbruck, is a majestic mountain peak in the Nordkette range, directly north of Innsbruck. Reaching an elevation of 2,334 meters (7,657 feet), it provides breathtaking panoramic views that few other locations can match. From the summit, visitors can gaze south over the city of Innsbruck, the Inn Valley, and the Stubai Alps, while to the north, the rugged limestone slopes of the Karwendel mountains stretch into the distance. The journey to Hafelekarspitze is an experience in itself. Starting from the heart of Innsbruck, the Nordkettenbahnen lifts transport visitors via a series of three lifts: first the Hungerburg funicular, designed by Zaha Hadid, to Hungerburg, then the Seegrubenbahn cable car to Seegrube, and finally the Hafelekarbahn to the summit. Each leg of the journey offers increasingly stunning views, blending modern architecture with the natural alpine landscape. At the summit, a short, paved path leads from the Hafelekar station to the peak, making it easily accessible. The Hafelekar Survey Station, a cosmic radiation observatory of the University of Innsbruck, is located near the summit and was the site of the first observation of nuclear disintegration 'stars' caused by cosmic rays in 1937. In both summer and winter, Hafelekarspitze serves as a starting point for various mountain hikes and ski routes.
