Rotbachlspitze: A Zillertal Alps Hiking Gem

The Rotbachlspitze, standing at 2,897 meters (9,505 feet), offers a rewarding hiking experience with breathtaking scenery. The mountain's name, meaning "Red Peak," comes from the distinctive red-colored rock, particularly visible near the summit. The hike to Rotbachlspitze typically begins from the Schlegeisspeicher reservoir, a scenic lake accessible by car, bus, or bike via a toll road. The trail leads south towards the Pfitscherjoch Haus, a mountain hut located just over the border in Italy. This section of the path is also traversable by bike. Along the way, hikers pass the Lavitzalm, a rustic mountain hut offering a glimpse into traditional alpine life. From the Pfitscherjoch Haus, the route ascends eastward towards the summit of Rotbachlspitze. The terrain becomes rockier, leading through a unique lunar-like landscape.
