This narrow gorge has been shaped over millennia by the Kapruner Ache river. The gorge stretches 320 meters long and reaches depths of up to 32 meters. Named after Sigmund Thun, a local mayor who played a significant role in making the gorge accessible to the public, the Klamm opened to the public in 1893. Access was restricted in 1938 during the construction of a nearby hydroelectric power plant. It wasn't until the early 1990s that the gorge was reopened. Visitors can explore the Sigmund Thun Klamm via a network of well-maintained wooden walkways and bridges that wind through the narrow passages above the rushing water. The path through the gorge leads directly above the water, offering spectacular views. The thundering water, the steep walls, and the interplay of light and shadow create a memorable experience. At the end of the gorge, the landscape opens up to the idyllic Klammsee lake. The lake is a perfect place to relax, with play areas for children, seating, and picnic areas. A circular trail leads back to the entrance, offering additional views. The Sigmund Thun Klamm is open from May to November. During the summer months, special events such as night visits and light shows are often organized.
