    From Salzburg, take a direct train to Werfen Bahnhof. Trains depart regularly, approximately every 30 minutes, and the journey takes around 40 minutes. A one-way ticket costs between €8 and €12. From Werfen Bahnhof, walk through the foot tunnel into the town center. The Sound of Music Trailhead is a 10-minute walk from the train station, opposite the Werfen Tourism Office. Alternatively, the w3-Shuttle on-demand bus serves the area Werfen-Pfarrwerfen-Werfenweng. Book at least 60 minutes before departure by calling +43 664 1266700.

  • Walking

    From the Werfen Tourism Office, the Sound of Music Trail begins. The trail is well-marked. Follow the signs uphill towards the Gschwandtanger meadow. The hike takes approximately 45-60 minutes to reach the meadow. An alternate, slightly easier route is to walk up the road to the meadow.

  • Driving

    From Salzburg, drive south on the A10 Tauern Autobahn. The drive to Werfen takes approximately 30 minutes. Note that there may be tolls on the A10. Once in Werfen, follow signs to the Sound of Music Trail. You can drive up the road leading to the meadow, where there are limited places to pull over and park. Parking is free.
