Discover more about Strasser Häusl

The Strasser Häusl in Laimach is a historic monument with a fascinating story. This ancient log cabin was once home to the Strasser family, whose children played a pivotal role in spreading the Christmas carol 'Silent Night! Holy Night!' across the globe. In 1831, the Strasser children performed the song in Leipzig, Germany, from where it gained international recognition. The museum within the Strasser Häusl offers a glimpse into the lives of Zillertal mountain farmers in bygone days. The building itself, dating back to 1714, features walls clad with weathered wooden beams, a traditional wood-fired range, and bull's eye window panes. The museum displays an extensive collection of rural antiques and artifacts. Following the death of its caretaker, Mrs. Rosa Kraft, the municipality of Hippach took ownership and reopened the renovated museum in November 2021. The renovated rooms now house old woodwind instruments and various tools from a bygone era. The museum also tells the story of the Strasser children and their contribution to music history.
