Metro

From the Icherisheher Metro Station (Red Line), Highland Park is a short walk or taxi ride away. Follow signs towards the Old City and then uphill towards the Flame Towers. A taxi from the metro station should cost around 2-3 AZN.

Also known as Dagustu Park (Upland Park), it's more than just a scenic spot; it's a place of reflection and remembrance.Originally, the area was known as English Park and served as a burial site for British soldiers in the early 20th century. In 1935, construction began on Highland Park, designed by architect Lev Ilyin. During the Soviet era, it was named after Sergey Kirov, and a monument to him was erected. After Azerbaijan regained its independence, the park was renamed Highland Park, and the Kirov monument was removed.The Alley of Martyrs (Şəhidlər Xiyabanı) is the park's emotional core, dedicated to the victims of the 1990 Soviet crackdown and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The Eternal Flame memorial burns at its heart, symbolizing the enduring spirit of Azerbaijan's martyrs. The Gulistan Palace, constructed in the 1980s, hosts cultural events and was the site of the signing of the “Contract of the Century” in 1994.Extensively renovated between 2011 and 2013, Highland Park features restored pathways, new landscaping, and modern lighting. A mysterious boulder with a rectangular hole, believed by some to have healing properties, adds to the park's unique character. The park is open 24 hours a day, offering stunning views both day and night.
