The Heydar Mosque, inaugurated in 2014, is a monumental testament to modern Islamic architecture in Baku, Azerbaijan. Named in honor of Heydar Aliyev, the former president of Azerbaijan, this grand mosque is not only the largest in the country but also in the entire Caucasus region. The mosque covers an area of 12,000 square meters and can accommodate up to 75,000 worshippers.The mosque's architecture harmoniously blends traditional Shirvan-Absheron style with modern aesthetics. This is reflected in the special stone style of the facade, combined with marble and wood interior decorations. Verses from the Quran are inscribed on the domes, showcasing intricate craftsmanship. The mosque boasts four impressive minarets, each soaring to a height of 95 meters, and two majestic domes, with the main dome reaching 55 meters and the secondary dome 35 meters.The interior spans 4,200 square meters, adorned with exquisite decorative elements. The carpets, covering 920 square meters, are designed in the style of the renowned Sheikh Safi carpet. The mosque complex includes prayer halls, Quran memorization rooms, and spacious courtyards for religious ceremonies.Beyond its architectural grandeur, the Heydar Mosque serves as a significant spiritual and cultural center. It welcomes visitors of all faiths, promoting peace, tolerance, and unity within the community.
