Göy-göl, a mesmerizing natural lake in Azerbaijan, lies cradled in the foothills of the Murovdag range, not far from Ganja. Its name, translating to 'Blue Lake,' perfectly captures the essence of its pristine waters, which reflect the sky and surrounding forests in a dazzling display of color. This natural wonder owes its existence to a powerful earthquake that struck the region in 1139. The seismic event caused a portion of Mount Kapaz to collapse, blocking the Kürəkçay River and creating a natural dam. Over time, the diverted waters filled the basin, giving birth to Göy-göl's breathtaking landscape. The lake sits at an elevation of 1,556 meters above sea level, stretching 2,800 meters in length and reaching a maximum width of 800 meters. Its depth plunges to 93 meters, allowing visibility of up to 8-10 meters below the surface.Göy-göl is not only a visual delight but also a haven for biodiversity. The lake is home to the Göygöl trout, a unique species that evolved from river trout after the lake's formation.
