Discover more about Highland Park

Highland Park, or Dağüstü Park as it's known locally, is a must-visit destination in Baku, Azerbaijan, offering a unique blend of stunning views, historical depth, and tranquil green space. Perched atop a hill, it provides the most spectacular panoramic views of Baku, stretching from the shimmering Caspian Sea to the iconic Flame Towers and the ancient walls of Icherisheher (Old City). Originally known as English Park, the area served as a burial site for British soldiers in the early 20th century. The park's transformation began in 1935 under architect Lev Ilyin, and it was later named after Sergey Kirov during the Soviet era. After Azerbaijan regained its independence, the park was renamed Highland Park. The Alley of Martyrs (Şəhidlər Xiyabanı) is the emotional heart of Highland Park. This memorial commemorates the victims of the 1990 Soviet crackdown and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The park has undergone significant renovations, most recently between 2011 and 2013, enhancing its pathways, landscaping, and lighting systems. Today, Highland Park features clean, landscaped trails, benches, cafes, and playgrounds, making it an inviting space for locals and tourists alike. The Gulistan Palace and Green Theatre are also among the park's attractions.
