Bibiheybat Mosque: A Spiritual Beacon by the Caspian Sea

Bibiheybat Mosque, also known as Bibi-Heybat Mosque, is a prominent historical mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. The current structure is a recreation of the original mosque, which was built in the 13th century by the Shirvanshah Farrukhzad II Ibn Ahsitan II. The original mosque was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1936. The reconstructed mosque was completed in the late 1990s and serves as a spiritual center for Muslims in the region and a major monument of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan. The mosque is built over the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and sister of the seventh Shia Imam, Musa al-Kazim. This makes it a significant pilgrimage site.
