Originally conceived as the Bahrain Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, the structure was dismantled and rebuilt as a botanical garden, providing a poetic interpretation of Bahrain's cultural and agrarian heritage that stretches back to the ancient Dilmun civilization. Designed by architect Anne Holtrop and landscape architect Anouk Vogel, the pavilion features a continuous landscape of Bahraini fruit gardens intersected by enclosed exhibition spaces. Constructed from white prefabricated concrete panels, the pavilion's seams subtly allude to the forms found in Bahrain's archaeological history, blending nature and culture. At the heart of the pavilion are ten distinct fruit gardens, each showcasing trees that bear fruit at different times of the year, ensuring a vibrant display of Bahrain's agricultural diversity.
