Vertical Garden: A Green Oasis in Muharraq

Located at the entrance of Muharraq, the Vertical Garden stands as a testament to innovative urban greening and a celebration of Bahrain's natural heritage. Conceived by French designers and supported by GPIC, this open-air garden is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East. It seeks to recreate the lushness of Bahrain's historical oases, providing a green gateway to the ancient city. The garden features an impressive collection of approximately 200 plant species, carefully selected from subtropical and desert climates around the globe, including the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East, Australia, and South Africa. This diverse botanical display creates a vibrant and ever-changing tapestry of colors and textures. The vertical arrangement of the garden maximizes space and creates a visually stunning display that is both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally beneficial. The Vertical Garden is more than just a visual spectacle; it embodies an integrated ecosystem where visitors can observe the cycles of growth and renewal. The center has restored numerous traditional Bahraini houses in Muharraq and Manama, transforming them into cultural hubs and museums. Visitors can also explore the Green Corner, which houses an archival library dedicated to preserving documents related to Bahrain's art history and environmental sciences.
