The Baliati Jamidar Bari, also known as Baliati Palace, is located in Baliati village, in Saturia Upazila of Manikganj District. This historical landmark stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Zamindari system in Bengal during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The palace complex, founded by Gobinda Ram Shaha, a prosperous salt merchant, occupies a sprawling area of approximately 16,554 square meters. The estate features seven palatial structures, about 200 rooms, enclosed within a moat and perimeter wall. The architecture is a blend of traditional Bengali and European styles, showcasing intricate carvings, grand halls, and lush gardens. Two lion statues guard the entrance gate, symbolizing the wealth and power of the Zamindar family. Visitors can explore the richly adorned interiors and expansive courtyards, and a museum in the central block known as Rangmahal displays artifacts, furniture, and photographs that provide insight into the lifestyle of the aristocratic families of the past. The palace also includes four ponds, adding to the tranquil ambiance of the estate. The Bangladesh Archaeological Department has been preserving the site as a protected cultural property since 1987. Visiting hours vary depending on the season: During summer (April to September), it's open from 10 AM to 6 PM, and during winter (October to March), from 9 AM to 5 PM. The palace is closed on Sundays and opens at 2 PM on Mondays. It is also temporarily closed for prayers on Fridays from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
