Discover more about Tewta Jomidar Bari

Located in Shibalaya Upazila, Manikganj, Tewta Zamindar Bari stands as a reminder of Bangladesh's rich Zamindari past. Constructed in the 17th century by Panchanan Sen, who amassed wealth through tobacco production, the estate later came under the ownership of Joy Sankar and Hem Sankar. After the partition of India in 1947, the families migrated, leaving the palace abandoned. The architecture blends Mughal and European styles, spread across 7.38 acres. The complex includes the main palace (Laldighi Bhavan), a Nat Mandir (temple), the Nabaratna Math (a nine-jeweled monastery), and other buildings, totaling 55 rooms. The Laldighi Bhavan hosted gatherings and cultural events. The Nabaratna Math, a four-storied temple, showcases intricate carvings. The estate is also known for the love story of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Promila Debi. It's believed that Kazi Nazrul Islam first met Promila Debi here, with the palace's ambiance inspiring his verses. Despite its historical importance, the Tewta Zamindar Bari has suffered neglect. While some efforts are underway to preserve the site, many structures are dilapidated.
