Mirpur Beribadh: A Riverside Escape

Mirpur Beribadh, situated on the Turag River's edge, provides a welcome respite from Dhaka's hectic pace. Constructed in the early 1990s, the Beribadh, or embankment, was vital in controlling the river's flow and safeguarding the surrounding areas. The heart of Mirpur Beribadh is its roughly two-kilometer-long footbridge along the riverside. This elevated walkway offers panoramic views of the river and surroundings, creating an immersive experience. Walking along the footbridge gives the feeling of floating on the water, with the river on one side and lush foliage on the other. As the sun sets, Mirpur Beribadh transforms into a magical place, painting the sky with vibrant colors reflected in the river. Smaller boats are available for hire, with an hour's ride typically costing around Tk 500, but bargaining is recommended. Along the Beribadh, several private parks like Tamanna World Family Park, Fairy Land, and Neverland offer comfortable seating, snacks, and even amusement rides. These parks provide a family-friendly atmosphere where children can play and adults can relax while enjoying the river views. Mirpur itself has a rich history, playing a vital role in the Liberation War of 1971. The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the National Zoo, and the National Botanical Garden are all located in Mirpur.
