The Baliati Jamidar Bari, also known as Baliati Palace, stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Zamindari era in Bengal. Located in Baliati village, Saturia Upazila, Manikganj, about 8 km from Manikganj district, this historical estate dates back to the late 18th century when Gobinda Ram Shaha, a successful salt merchant, established the Zamindari. His descendants expanded the estate, leaving behind a legacy of architectural and cultural significance. The palace complex sprawls across 5.88 acres (approximately 16,554 square meters) and comprises seven separate blocks, enclosed by high walls and three imposing gateways adorned with lion statues. Within the walls, visitors can explore around 200 rooms, each reflecting the craftsmanship and architectural style of the 19th century. The buildings showcase a blend of colonial and Renaissance influences, featuring intricate carvings, ornate facades, and grand staircases. Noteworthy structures include the Eastern House, Western House, Northern House, Central House, and Gola House, each serving a distinct purpose. The central block's upper story houses a decorative hall known as Rangmahal, which now serves as a museum. Here, visitors can delve deeper into the history of the Zamindar family and their impact on the region through historical artifacts, old furniture, photographs, and manuscripts. The grounds of the Bari feature lush gardens, well-maintained lawns, and serene ponds, including a large pond (dighi) at the back, adding to the tranquil ambiance. The Bangladesh Archaeological Department has protected the site since 1987.
