DB Haor: A Symphony of Water Lilies
Experience the magic of DB Haor: a floating garden of red water lilies in Sylhet, Bangladesh. A must-see natural wonder!
DB Haor, a captivating wetland also known as Shapla Beel, is situated in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet, Bangladesh, close to the Indian border. This area comprises four interconnected বিলs (wetlands): DB বিল, Yam বিল, Harafkata বিল, and Kendri বিল, collectively spanning approximately 900 acres. After the monsoon season, DB Haor undergoes a magical transformation, becoming a vast expanse of red water lilies. The sight of thousands of these vibrant blooms, particularly during the early morning hours, is truly breathtaking. The surrounding hills of Meghalaya, India, add to the scenic charm, creating a picturesque and tranquil environment. DB Haor is not only a visual delight but also an important habitat for migratory birds, especially during the winter months. Birdwatchers can spot various species, including বালিশাহস, পাতিসরালিs, cormorants, and জল ময়ুরীs. Adding a touch of history to the natural beauty, a ruined temple, estimated to be around 200 years old, stands near the haor. Legend says that the king of Jainta was drowned here, and the temple was built in his memory. While DB Haor is a popular tourist destination, it faces environmental challenges. Concerns have been raised about পাথর ভাঙ্গার activities and changes in land category that could threaten the delicate ecosystem.
