Getting There

  • Launch & Motorbike/Auto-rickshaw & Ferry

The most common way to reach Nijhum Dwip involves a combination of launch, road transport, and ferry. First, take an overnight launch from Dhaka's Sadarghat to Hatiya Island's Tomruddin Ghat (approx. 8-9 hours, deck fare 350 BDT, single cabin 1200 BDT, double cabin 2200 BDT). From Tomruddin Ghat, hire a motorbike taxi (350 BDT, 1 hour) or auto-rickshaw (600-800 BDT) to Moktaria Ghat. Finally, take a local ferry from Moktaria Ghat to Nijhum Dwip (Bandar Tilla Ghat) (20 BDT per person + 3 BDT dock fee, 15 minutes).

  • Ferry & Motorboat

Another route involves transport via Noakhali. From Noakhali's Chairman Ghat, take a passenger ferry or trawler to Hatia Island (Nalchira Ghat) (80-150 BDT, 2-3 hours). Upon arrival at Hatia, hire a CNG/auto-rickshaw to Moktaria Ghat (300-500 BDT, 1-1.5 hours). From Moktaria Ghat, take a local motorboat to Nijhum Dwip (Bandar Tilla Ghat) (20-30 BDT per person, 10-15 minutes).

  • Fishing Trawler

For a more direct but potentially more expensive option, charter a fishing trawler from Tamurddi Ghat (Hatia) directly to Nijhum Dwip (Namar Bazar). This avoids multiple transfers but costs between 3500-5000 BDT for the entire trawler. Negotiate the price beforehand; the journey takes approximately 2-3 hours.
