Katka Monument: A Memorial of Remembrance

The Katka Monument stands as a solemn tribute to the eleven students, nine from Khulna University's Architecture Discipline and two from BUET, who tragically lost their lives in 2004. These students were swept away by strong currents while swimming in the Bay of Bengal, near Katka in the Sundarbans, during a university field trip. The monument, located on the Khulna University campus, serves as a permanent memorial, ensuring that the memory of these students remains a constant presence in the daily lives of the university community. It provides a space for reflection, remembrance, and quiet contemplation. The design of the monument is intended to evoke a sense of loss and the fragility of life. Observed annually with day-long programs, the university community participates in mourning processions, floral tributes, photo exhibitions, and দোয়া mahfils.
