Madhabpur Lake: A Tea Garden Oasis

Madhabpur Lake, a jewel in Moulvibazar's Kamalganj Upazila, Bangladesh, provides a tranquil escape surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Created in 1965 as a reservoir for the Madhabpur Tea Estate, the lake has become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its serene atmosphere and picturesque landscapes. The lake stretches approximately 2.5 to 3 kilometers, covering around 50 acres. The surrounding hills, blanketed in verdant tea gardens, create a mesmerizing panorama. The lake is adorned with vibrant water lilies and lotuses, including rare purple-blue varieties, adding a splash of color to the tranquil waters. The clear reflection of the sky and surrounding hills on the lake's surface creates a mirror-like effect, making it a photographer's paradise. Madhabpur Lake is also a haven for wildlife, home to diverse bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers. During the winter months, migratory birds flock to the lake. The lake is also reportedly the only confirmed site in Bangladesh to spot the great white-bellied heron. Visitors can take leisurely boat rides, explore the surrounding tea gardens, and enjoy picnics by the lakeside.
