Established in 1974, the zoo spans 186 acres in Mirpur and is home to a diverse collection of animals, with the goal of wildlife conservation, education, and recreation. The zoo houses over 2,000 animals from 165 species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish. Visitors can see Bengal tigers (the national animal), lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and various species of monkeys. The zoo aims to create natural-like environments for its animals and educate the public about wildlife conservation. While the zoo is a popular destination, it has faced criticism regarding animal welfare and maintenance. Some visitors have expressed concerns about limited space for animals and outdated facilities.
