Discover more about Teesta Bridge

Spanning the Teesta River, the Teesta Bridge stands as a testament to engineering and a vital component of Bangladesh's transportation infrastructure. The bridge facilitates road connectivity between Rangpur and Lalmonirhat, as well as Kurigram districts, playing a crucial role in regional commerce and travel. Originally, a meter gauge railway line was completed with the opening of the Teesta Bridge in April 1901, which ran northwards from the Sara Train Ferry. The bridge was constructed with 13 spans, each measuring 150 feet (45.7 meters), requiring extensive groundwork and training bunds. The construction also involved sinking 14 wells for the piers that support the steel girders, each weighing 159 tons. While primarily a functional bridge, the Teesta Bridge also offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the Teesta River and its surrounding landscapes. It serves as an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts, especially during the early morning or late afternoon when the lighting is optimal.
