Flower Forest Botanical Gardens: A Tranquil Escape

Discover a tranquil escape at the Flower Forest Botanical Gardens, nestled in the parish of St. Joseph, Barbados. Situated on the historic Richmond Plantation, approximately 850 feet above sea level, these gardens offer a unique blend of natural beauty and curated landscapes. Once a struggling sugar plantation, Richmond Plantation was redeveloped in the 1980s to become a botanical and tourism resource. The gardens officially opened in December 1983 and have since been a place where visitors can wander along paved walkways shaded by Caribbean Royal Palms and discover a kaleidoscope of colorful flowers and exotic plants. Collections of Heliconias, ginger lilies, bromeliads, and anthurium lilies provide a flowering base underneath tall, indigenous Caribbean Royal palms. Meandering paths lead to strategically placed lookouts, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the distant eastern coastline. The atmosphere is one of tranquility and relaxation, a welcome respite from the bustling beaches and tourist hotspots. The gardens also host weddings and events. There is also a gift shop where locally made crafts can be purchased.
