Bouillon Castle, or Château de Bouillon, is a prominent medieval castle located in the town of Bouillon in Wallonia, Belgium. The castle's history stretches back to the 8th century, with the first mention of it occurring in 988. Strategically positioned on a rocky ridge within a sharp bend of the Semois River, the castle has been a crucial defensive site for centuries.The castle is famously associated with Godfrey of Bouillon, who inherited it in 1082. To finance his participation in the First Crusade, Godfrey sold the castle to Otbert, the Bishop of Liège. Over the centuries, the castle underwent several sieges and changes in ownership. In the late 17th century, Louis XIV's military architect, Vauban, enhanced the castle with heavy artillery fortifications.Today, visitors can explore the castle's extensive complex of tunnels, dungeons, and ramparts. The site also offers falconry shows, typically running from February to November, showcasing birds of prey. Additionally, the City Pass grants access to other attractions, including the Scriptura Museum, the Ducal Museum, and the Bouillon Medieval Experience.
