Discover more about Beursschouwburg

Located in the center of Brussels, the Beursschouwburg is a vibrant multidisciplinary arts center that has become a cultural landmark. Known for providing a platform for young and innovative artists, the Beursschouwburg hosts a diverse range of events, including theatre performances, concerts, films, exhibitions, debates, and lectures. The building itself has a rich history. Originally built in 1885 as the Brasserie Flamande, a shop with a cafe and party hall, it was transformed into a theatre hall in 1947. In 1983, the building was acquired by the Flemish Community. After a period of neglect, it underwent renovations in the period leading up to 2004 to become the arts center it is today. The architecture is notable for its eclectic style, combining different historical influences with modern materials. The interior features a spacious central hall with walls covered in concrete and vivid red polyurethane accents. Other rooms are decorated in unique styles, such as white high-gloss paint in the foyers, a golden party hall, a silver attic, and a black and white checkered cafe. The Beursschouwburg is more than just a venue; it's a meeting place where people can enjoy being together. The Beurscafé serves as a base for the discursive program, hosting talks, lectures, debates, and round-table discussions. The Beursschouwburg aims to blend the building and the city, creating a metropolitan and urban character.
