The Monument to the Glory of the Belgian Infantry stands as a powerful tribute to the soldiers who served in the Belgian infantry during World Wars I and II. Situated on the prominent Place Poelaert in Brussels, the monument is hard to miss, with its towering presence and intricate details. The infantry suffered heavy losses, accounting for nearly 70% of the total deaths during the conflict. Designed by architect Antoine De Mol and sculptor Edward Vereycken, both war veterans, the monument was inaugurated on May 5, 1935, in the presence of King Leopold III. The structure features a tall obelisk made of blue stone, with sculptures of soldiers, officers and dogs. The monument also has four sentinels at the top, standing guard below the royal crown. The monument serves as both a tourist attraction and a place for reflection.
