‘Cycling Through Water’ in Bokrijk offers a truly unique and immersive experience, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to traverse a 212-meter path that cuts through one of the largest ponds in the De Wijers nature reserve. Opened in April 2016, this innovative path is sunken 1.6 meters below the surface, bringing you to eye-level with the water on both sides. The path is part of the Limburg cycle node network, located near junction 91. As you cycle or walk, you'll feel, see, and smell the water, gaining a stunning and unique perspective of this natural element. From a distance, the sight of people seemingly gliding across the water's surface is quite amusing. The path is constructed from concrete, seamlessly blending into the natural surroundings. The De Wijers area itself is a remarkable ecosystem with around 700 hectares of ponds, wetlands and forests. Bokrijk Park, where 'Cycling Through Water' is located, spans over 550 hectares and offers more than just this unique cycling experience. Visitors can explore the Open-Air Museum, one of Europe's largest, showcasing Flemish village life from the 17th to the 20th century with over 120 authentic buildings. The Bokrijk Domain also includes vast public gardens, an arboretum, and numerous walking and cycling routes.
