Car Rental
If you have rented a car, start from San Pedro Town. Head north on the main road (Airstrip Road) towards the north end of the island. Continue driving for approximately 5 miles (8 km) until you reach Mata Chica Resort. The entrance to Mata Chica Canyons is nearby, just off the main road. Look for signs indicating the entrance to the canyons. Parking may be available at the resort, but confirm this upon arrival.
Taxi
You can take a taxi from anywhere in San Pedro Town to Mata Chica Resort. This is a convenient option, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. The taxi fare should be around $15-20 BZD (approximately $7.50-10 USD) depending on your location in town. Inform the driver that you want to go to Mata Chica Canyons, and they will drop you off at the resort where the canyons are located.
Public Transportation (Water Taxi)
You can also reach Mata Chica Canyons via a water taxi. Start by taking a water taxi from San Pedro to the northern part of Ambergris Caye. The water taxi terminal is located near the central plaza in San Pedro. Once you arrive at the northern terminal, you can either walk to Mata Chica Resort or take a local taxi for a short ride (about 5 minutes). The water taxi fare is typically around $20-25 BZD (approximately $10-12.50 USD) one way.
Bicycle Rental
For the more adventurous, consider renting a bicycle in San Pedro. Several rental shops are available throughout town. Once you have your bike, head north on the main road. The ride will take about 30-45 minutes depending on your pace. Follow the signs towards Mata Chica Resort, and enjoy the scenic views along the way. Remember to wear a helmet and be cautious of traffic.
