Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, take the Philip Goldson Highway (also known as the Northern Highway) south from Belize City. Follow the signs towards San Pedro, and you will need to take a ferry from the mainland to the island of Ambergris Caye. The ferry departs from the Belize City Swing Bridge area, so make sure to head there. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes and costs around $20 BZD per person one way. Once you arrive at San Pedro, you can either walk or take a local taxi to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, which is located at 2 Barrier Reef Drive, approximately a 5-minute drive from the ferry terminal.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Hol Chan Marine Reserve using public transportation, start by taking a bus or shuttle from Belize City to San Pedro. Buses leave from the Belize City bus terminal and cost about $25 BZD per person. Once in San Pedro, you will need to get to the ferry terminal to take the ferry to Ambergris Caye. The ferry costs around $20 BZD one way and takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at San Pedro, you can either walk or take a local taxi to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, which is located at 2 Barrier Reef Drive, just a short distance from the ferry terminal.

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can also hire a taxi. After arriving at the ferry terminal in San Pedro, you can find a taxi that will take you directly to Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The taxi fare should be approximately $5-10 BZD, depending on your negotiation skills and the exact distance.
