Car
If you're traveling by car, start by heading toward the town of Orange Walk. From Belize City, take the Philip Goldson Highway (also known as the Northern Highway) north until you reach the junction for the Orange Walk Town road. Follow the signs to Orange Walk. Once in Orange Walk, continue on the main road until you reach the entrance to the New River, where you will find a boat dock. Here you will need to park your car and take a boat to Lamanai Outpost Lodge. The boat ride takes approximately 30-40 minutes and offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding wildlife.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Belize City to Orange Walk. Buses leave regularly from the Belize City bus terminal. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Orange Walk, ask the locals for directions to the boat dock for the New River. Here, you can find boats that take you to Lamanai Outpost Lodge. The boat ride lasts around 30-40 minutes. Be sure to confirm the boat schedule and fares with the operator, as they can vary.
Private Transfer
If you prefer a more comfortable and direct option, consider booking a private transfer from Belize City to Lamanai Outpost Lodge. Many travel agencies offer this service, which typically includes a car ride to the New River dock followed by a boat ride to the lodge. This option can be more expensive but offers convenience and saves time, especially if you're traveling with a group.
Combination of Car and Boat
For a more scenic route, drive to the village of San Felipe, located near the New River. From Belize City, take the Philip Goldson Highway and follow signs to San Felipe. Once there, you can park your car at a local facility and take a boat directly to Lamanai Outpost Lodge. This option allows you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the river.
