Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from San Ignacio, which is the nearest major town. Drive west on the Western Highway (Hummingbird Highway) towards Benque Viejo del Carmen. After around 10 miles, take the exit towards San Jose Succotz. Continue on this road for about 3 miles until you reach the village of San Jose Succotz. Look for signs directing you to Xunantunich. There is a parking area near the ferry crossing, where you'll need to park your car.

• Public Transportation

  From San Ignacio, you can take a public bus or a shared taxi to San Jose Succotz. The buses leave frequently from the main bus terminal in San Ignacio, and the fare is typically around 2-3 BZD (Belize Dollars). Inform the driver that you are going to San Jose Succotz. Upon arrival in the village, you will need to walk to the river ferry terminal, which is about a 10-minute walk. The ferry ride across the river to the Xunantunich entrance is approximately 5 BZD and operates from 8 AM to 5 PM. Once you cross the river, you will see signs directing you to the entrance of the ruins, which is about a 15-minute walk uphill.

• Ferry

  After parking your car or arriving via public transport in San Jose Succotz, you will need to take a small ferry across the Mopan River to reach the Xunantunich site. The ferry operates from 8 AM to 5 PM and costs approximately 5 BZD per person. Make sure to check the ferry schedule if you plan to return after 5 PM.
