Car
If you are driving from San Ignacio, head northeast on the George Price Highway (Hwy 1) for about 12 miles (20 km) until you reach the junction for the Western Highway (Hwy 2). Turn left onto Hwy 2 and continue for approximately 6 miles (10 km) until you reach a sign for Belize City. Take the right fork to remain on the Western Highway. After another 20 miles (32 km), turn left onto the road leading to the New River area. Follow this road for about 5 miles (8 km) until you reach the river. Ensure your vehicle has good ground clearance as some sections may be unpaved.
Public Transportation
To reach New River by public transport, first take a bus from San Ignacio to Belize City. Buses leave from the San Ignacio bus terminal regularly throughout the day. The fare should be around BZD 10 to BZD 15. Once in Belize City, transfer to a bus heading towards Orange Walk Town, which will cost approximately BZD 5. After arriving in Orange Walk, you can either take a taxi (approximately BZD 30) directly to New River or inquire at the local bus station for any available services that might take you closer to New River. Be prepared for a potentially longer wait time for the taxi, as they may not always be readily available.
Boat
If you prefer a scenic route and are near a suitable launch point, consider taking a boat trip. You can hire a local guide in the nearby areas (such as Orange Walk or Corozal) who can provide boat services to New River. This typically ranges from BZD 150 to BZD 200 per group. Ensure to negotiate beforehand, and check for any necessary life jackets or safety equipment provided by the guide.
Use New River as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
