Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the center of Thimphu. Head north on Norzin Lam, continue straight until you reach the traffic circle at the junction with the main road. Take the first exit onto the Thimphu-Chhukha Highway. After about 1.5 kilometers, look for a sign on your left indicating Dechen Phodrang Monastery. Turn left and follow the road uphill. The monastery is approximately 1 kilometer up the road, and there is parking available at the site.

• Taxi

  You can easily hire a taxi from any point in Thimphu. Simply tell the driver 'Dechen Phodrang Monastery' or show them the address (GJ2J+FX9, Thimphu). The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes and typically costs around 300-400 BTN. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting your journey.

• Public Bus

  Take a bus from the main bus terminal in Thimphu. Look for buses heading towards Samteling. The bus ride costs around 30 BTN and takes about 30 minutes. Once you get off at the Samteling stop, you will need to walk approximately 1 kilometer uphill to reach Dechen Phodrang Monastery. There may be local signs to guide you, or you can ask locals for directions.

• Walking

  If you are nearby and prefer to walk, from the center of Thimphu, head towards the Thimphu-Chhukha Highway and follow the road signs to Dechen Phodrang Monastery. The walk is approximately 2.5 kilometers and will take around 30-40 minutes. The path is uphill, so be prepared for a bit of a workout!
