Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the center of Thimphu at the Clock Tower Square. Head south on Norzin Lam, which is the main street. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Tashichhodzong on your left. Turn left onto Chhogyal Lam and continue straight. After about 500 meters, you will come to a junction. Take the right fork onto Je Bamo Lam SE. Simtokha Dzong will be located about 200 meters ahead on your left.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer to take a taxi, go to one of the designated taxi stands in Thimphu, such as the ones near the Clock Tower Square or the Post Office. Tell the driver you want to go to Simtokha Dzong, located on Je Bamo Lam SE in Semtokha. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting the journey or use a metered taxi.

  • Public Bus

    From the main bus terminal in Thimphu, take a bus heading towards Semtokha. The buses are usually marked with their destination. After boarding, stay on until you reach the Semtokha stop. Once you disembark, walk towards Je Bamo Lam SE, which is just a short 10-minute walk from the bus stop. Simtokha Dzong will be on your left as you approach.
